World’s First-Ever ‘Space Hotel’ Is Set To Open In 2027

Do you remember the Elysium––– that rotating space habitat from the movie of the same name (Elysium2013)? Well, somewhat of that kind, a space hotel is about to open in 2027.

The hotel will be named Voyager Class Space Station and the construction will be done by Orbital Assembly Corporation (OAC). It is said that the building of the hotel will commence in the year 2025 with the intention of it being operational by 2027.

The Voyager will be able to accommodate about 400 people. And both the hotel rooms and the hotel will have their own bar, cinema, restaurant, and spa. And, oh! also a gym, and kitchen.

As per the OAC website, the station is going to be “a rotating space station designed to produce varying levels of artificial gravity by increasing or decreasing the rate of rotation.

The space station will feature a series of pods attached to the outside of the rotating ring and some of these could be sold for space research. The rotating ring will consist of two concentric structural rings fixed together-––inner and outer ring. The outer ring will have a number of habitable modules, solar panels, radiators, a rail transport system, and where people will be able to move about the station freely. While the inner ring will be a docking hud.

Some of the modules of the outer ring will run by the Gateway Foundation and it’ll be for things like crew quarters, air, water, and power. And the other modules will be leased or sold to private companies and governments.

The idea of a space station goes back to the earlier days of space travel. The Idea was proposed by Wernher von Braun. And the concept of Voyager Class first came about in 2012 with the launch of the Gateway Foundation, which is founded by OAC.

The foundation will first test the concept with a much smaller scale prototype station and a free-flying microgravity facility similar to the International Space Station. The prototype station can help understand just how much gravity our bodies need as it will be able to increase or decrease the rate of rotation to have higher or lower gravity.

Details of the cost to build the station are not yet known and there’s no idea how much you’ll have to spend to stay a night. However, OAC says the costs are getting cheaper thanks to reusable launch vehicles like the SpaceX Falcon 9 and the future Starship.

John Blincow, the founder of the Gateway Foundation, said: “This will be the next industrial revolution.” What do you think?
