Girl With Down Syndrome Gets Adopted By A Loving Dad After Being Rejected By 20 Families

Meet Luca Trapanese, who adopted his daughter, Alba, in July 2017, came a long way, challenging the stereotypes of fatherhood, religion, and family in his home country. Luca adopted Alba when she was not even a month old.

Since then Luca’s story has gone viral for many reasons, one of which is that he is gay and single, and the social services in Italy don’t grant custody of a child to a single, heterosexual man. Luca was told that he would only be able to adopt a child with health or behavioral problems. But that didn’t stop him.

Luca adopted this cute little girl, Alba when she was only 13 days old. Alba has Down’s Syndrome and because of it, her mother gave her up for adoption. And it wasn’t easy to find a new family for baby Alba. Due to her condition, she was rejected by 20 families. But when Luca met her, he immediately fell for her. As if Lucas was living his life waiting for Alba.

After losing his best friend to cancer, Luca began volunteering for organizations focused on children with special needs. He later co-founded A Ruota Libera Onlus, a charitable organization that gives adults with disabilities an opportunity to socialize, develop their talents and be part of a community.

Luca always wanted to become a father, however, there were certain struggles, as he was, and still is single. Luckily, in 2017, he finally received approval to adopt.

I was told that I’d only be given a child with an illness, a severe disability, or with behavioral problems,he said. “I was absolutely OK with that.

When I first held her in my arms, I was overcome with joy, said Luca. “I felt she was my daughter straight away.”
