Beautiful Hand-Cut Octopus And More From A Single Sheet Of Paper By A Japanese Artist


A little-known fact is that the art of paper cutting needs a high degree of patience, a steady hand, and discipline. It is safe to say that Japanese artist Masayo Fukuda has undoubtedly aced at his skill.

This Japanese craft is called kirie 切り絵, which literally means ‘cut picture’. This traditional practice involves skillfully cutting intricate shapes from a sheet of paper. To help with contrast, it is then placed in front of a black background.

Fukuda the artist has been practicing the skill of kirie for about 25 years now and has shown what he believes is his best work of the year.
