Abandoned Underground Pub In London Was ‘Trapped In Time’ For 27 Years

Abandoned Underground Pub In London Was 'Trapped In Time' For 27 Years FI

There’s some worldly charm about historic places and abandoned sites. It takes us back to the time and that is simply magical. And if you are like us, you might find it interesting that there’s an abandoned underground pub in the UK that had closed its doors in 1993 and since then – has been trapped in time.

So, what exactly happened?

Until 1993, The Green Man used to be a basement bar (now, Carillon Court shopping center) in Loughborough, Leicestershire. So, it was right under a shopping mall and we mean that literally. There’s a trapdoor that leads to the bar.

Sources say it was too costly to build a proper entrance. And, so, it was closed down. The renovations that soon followed – closed the entrance, thereby, creating a time capsule of the last day of the pub.

Until it was opened up years later and it just felt like entering the past world. And oh, there was a book about it. There’s a novel named Green Man’s Dark Secret that was written by four friends—Stephen Ashurst, Karen Ette, Melinda Ingram, and Donna Shepherd—who went to university in Loughborough and wrote a book with this very pub being the key location in the story.

It looked like the staff closed the Green Man pub one day, thinking they’d come back, but it never happened.

While there are dust and debris everywhere, you can’t help but notice how much of the pub has remained intact. You can see the bar, the benches, the toilets, and the interior decorations.

You can even see glasses and mugs that were left behind. There’s even a packet of KP’s dry roasted peanuts.

The renovation meant that it was —frozen in time—as everything was left untouched.

Since its closure back in 1993, a number of developers came over to check it out, but ended up deciding against it—the price was just too high for them to do anything with. And so the place was untouched for 27 years now.
